From the Badge to Bondage

Tomiekia’s incarceration is not merely a personal tragedy it is a case study in how power protects itself. She describes her imprisonment as “political enslavement,” marked by decades-long manipulation of release dates, earned credits, and opaque administrative refusals to account for time she lawfully earned. Even as policies changed, credits accrued, and statutes evolved, the machinery remained resistant to transparency. Her Earned Release Parole Date (ERPD) removed 31 years from her sentence. Yet credits she earned since 2012long before later reforms remain conspicuously absent from official calculations. Requests for clarity are met not with answers, but with recalculated dates that still omit what she lawfully earned. This is not confusion. This is control. Still, Tomiekia persists in documenting, challenging, and exposing the cracks in the system, not only for herself, but for countless others whose names will never appear in headlines.

Surveillance, Silence, and Survival

 Since 2009, Tomiekia asserts she has lived under continuous state surveillance first as an officer, then as an incarcerated woman. What followed her into. custody was not accountability, but further abuse: stalking, intimidation, and gender-based targeting inside institutions that claim rehabilitation while reproducing harm. Yet even there, she built something extraordinary. Against every odd, Tomiekia forged programs, mentored others, and created meaning where the system offered none. Her resistance was not loud, it was disciplined. Strategic. Faith-driven.

The Elephants in the Room

Unable to obtain justice at the beginning of her fight, Tomiekia began documenting everything. From that decision came The Elephants in the Room, a private, hand-distributed newsletter sent directly from her cell to a small, intentional mailing list. It is not public. It is not curated for mass appeal. It is raw truth about policing, prisons, gendered violence, racism, faith, and the cost of survival. She also authored Grooming Officer Johnson: From the Academy to the Penitentiary, a work that traces the throughline between institutional grooming and incarceration. It is not just her story it is a warning. And soon, she will release a provocative, satirical self-help book titled Ass Hole a biblical plot twist exploring how misdirected aggression, when understood and disciplined, can become a force for survival, clarity, and growth.
